CHECK BEFORE DEPARTURE

Harmful Algal Blooms Occurring in Lake Richie and Intermediate Lake

Blooms are tested for toxin levels and monitored. Toxin levels are consistently low on Isle Royale. It is not recommended to filter water in any areas where there is surface scum, strong odors, or other evidence of a significant bloom. Blooms move around depending on wind and rain – filter water from places where blooms are not present or a different water source. It is low risk to filter water from relatively clear areas of an impacted water source.

North Country Trail Guided Hike

Meet at the Munising Falls Visitor Center to join a ranger for a hike along the North Country National Scenic Trail. Along the way, we’ll stop at four locations to explore how landscapes are living records of both natural and human history. By learning to read the clues left behind, we can better understand the people who came before us, the ways they worked and lived on this land, and the natural forces that continue to shape this place today. This hike is a 1-mile out and back route. It begins with a steady incline and, depending on conditions, may be muddy with exposed roots and rocks. Parts of the trail travel along the top of a bluff, so please use caution and watch your footing throughout the hike.
