The edge of the fire is within .25 miles of the northern structures nearest to the US/Canada border in Hozomeen. Firefighters used aerial delivered water support by Air Attack and four Scoopers to slow fire progression to the west. Warm and dry weather conditions are expected through Friday.

The Border 1 Fire (approx. 1 acre) and Border 2 Fire (approx. 0.25 acre) are in close proximity to one another, south of the U.S./Canada border and east of Ross Lake, in steep, rocky, and remote terrain.
The Warm Springs Wildland Fire Module continues suppression efforts on the Luna Fire (7 acres) within North Cascades National Park Service Complex. Firefighters are being supported by two Type-3 helicopters and a Type-1 helicopter using aerial delivered water.

The North Cascades National Park Service Complex today announced summer 2026 operations at Stehekin Landing will be limited following historic flooding in December that left the area’s wastewater treatment plant inoperable.
The National Park Service today announced it has awarded the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the construction contract to reconstruct Company Creek Road. USACE’s Rapid Response Team began work this week to rebuild an elevated interim road across federal lands. The interim road will provide similar access to the upper Company Creek area as the hasty corduroy road that has been used since floods in December 2025. Work is expected to last a few weeks.
The National Park Service today announced the availability of funding to partially rebuild Company Creek Road in North Cascades National Park Service Complex following significant flood damage in December2025. The NPS is evaluating options to execute this project before spring runoff.
An additional storm system came through the area this week with heavy wind, rains, and freezing temperatures. In Stehekin, crews continue work to stabilize critical infrastructure and road access in preparation for winter conditions.
Severe flooding and landslides from recent heavy rains caused unsafe conditions and limited basic services in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and the Stehekin Valley. A Type 3 Incident Command Team is in place to coordinate emergency response. The team, alongside Chelan County Emergency Management, is working to ensure people are safe and have access to supplies and immediate essentials. Visitors should not travel to the Stehekin area; there are no services available.

Fire behavior has the potential to increase slightly as fuels dry out with sunny conditions for the next couple of days. Rain and cooler temperatures are expected to return to the area on Sunday. As conditions and visibility safely allow, a Type-3 helicopter and a Type-1 KMAX helicopter will provide aerial delivered water operations and firefighter support to aid in a full suppression strategy.

Effective yesterday at 6 pm, a Level 1 Evacuation notice for Stehekin has been issued by the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management in coordination with Northwest Incident Management Team 3. A Level 1 Evacuation alerts residents and visitors there is a wildfire in the area. The evacuation level is being downgraded from a Level 2 Evacuation notice issued on July 25.
Colonial Creek South Campground and boat launch are closed to manage visitor safety, firefighter access, and emergency response in conjunction with firefighting efforts on the Ruby Fire.
Following a recent storm pattern with multiple lightning strikes across the area, an additional fire is active in Ross Lake National Recreation Area within North Cascades National Park Service Complex. The Ruby Fire, estimated at 107 acres, was detected August 9 and is located on the south side of Ruby Mountain.
Park officials have closed additional areas, trails, and camps due to increased fire activity on the Pioneer Fire and on a new fire start, the Flat Creek Fire, west of Stehekin on the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Closures are in effect to manage visitor safety, firefighter access, and emergency response to the fires across the area.
Due to firefighting activity, Goodell Creek Campground, raft launch, and picnic area are closed until further notice. An illegal campfire spread to a large cedar tree and continues to slowly burn.

A Level 2 Evacuation alerts residents and visitors there is danger from a wildfire in the area.
Park officials have closed Cascade River Road, Cascade Pass Trail, and Johannesburg Cross-country Zone to manage visitor safety due to the nearby Pincer Two Fire on the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Cascade River Road is closed at MP 8 (Marble Creek) and there is no access to North Cascades National Park beyond the closure.
Effective Friday, July 12, campfires or the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans and barbeque grills, are banned in all portions of North Cascades National Park Service Complex – North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. This includes all National Park Service lands and campgrounds along State Route 20 as well as Hozomeen and the entire Stehekin Valley. Stoves or grills that are solely fueled by liquid petroleum fuels for the purpose of cooking are allowed in all locations while cooking.
Several projects with helicopter support will begin this season in the Stephen Mather Wilderness as snow levels recede. Time and distance of flights over and around wilderness will be minimized whenever possible. Flight dates are subject to change depending on weather and other safety factors.
