Parks Canada has temporarily closed the shared Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park visitor centre in Tobermory for front-entrance concrete work. The current alert lists October 26 through Friday, October 30 as the closure window and warns that the work may be extended. The parking lot is specifically closed October 28.
The observation tower is under a separate closure for inspection and maintenance, with no announced reopening date. Parks Canada's current notice separates three different restrictions at the shared Tobermory visitor centre: the short-term building closure, the October 28 parking closure and the open-ended tower shutdown. None of them is described as a closure of either protected area in full.
During the parking closure, hikers using the Burnt Point Loop are directed to park in town and enter by the Bruce Trail. A signed reroute passes behind the visitor centre. The centre's regular page still displays ordinary hours while noting the entrance work and temporarily unavailable wheelchair access, so visitors should not treat the standard schedule as proof that the front entrance has reopened.
The visitor centre is normally scheduled for daily 9 a.m.–5 p.m. operations through October 31, then Friday-through-Tuesday service from November 1 through April 30. Cyprus Lake Campground is separately closed through October 31 because of increased bear activity. These concurrent notices make a fresh conditions check important even for travelers whose plans do not include the tower.
What Travelers Need to Know
Do not drive to the visitor-centre parking lot on October 28. For the Burnt Point Loop, park in Tobermory and follow the Bruce Trail and posted reroute. Before visiting after October 30, check the park homepage because Parks Canada says the concrete-work closure may be extended.
Assume the observation tower is unavailable until Parks Canada publishes a reopening update. The tower closure has no fixed end date, and the regular hours table applies to the centre's normal operating schedule rather than guaranteeing access to the tower or front entrance.
Regular admission resumed September 8. Parks Canada currently lists daily rates of C$10 for adults, C$8.75 for seniors, free admission for youth and C$19.50 for a family or group. Parking, camping and reservations for places such as the Grotto are handled separately, so confirm the exact permit and reservation required for the planned location.
If the itinerary includes Cyprus Lake Campground, contact the park before traveling. The campground is currently closed through October 31 because of bear activity, independently of the Tobermory construction and tower closures.
About the Location
Bruce Peninsula National Park occupies the northern end of Ontario's Bruce Peninsula, between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. Parks Canada highlights the Niagara Escarpment's cliffs, cedar forests, orchids and black-bear habitat, while the park's trails and limestone shoreline draw hikers and campers to a rugged landscape about 300 kilometres from Toronto.
The Tobermory visitor centre serves both the national park and Fathom Five National Marine Park, whose waters protect 24 known shipwrecks and the Flowerpot Island rock formations. The centre supplies park information, exhibits, permits, diver registration and access to nearby trails. Its tower rises 20 metres, or 65 feet, and normally requires 112 steps, so the shutdown removes one specific viewpoint while the surrounding parks retain other destinations and services.
