STATE & NATION TRAVEL · DESTINATION GUIDE

Europe Travel.

Build a European journey around particular countries and places, giving each museum, historic site and transport connection its own place in the plan.

About the Destination

A city’s cultural landmarks can have very different histories and visitor arrangements, even when they sit close together. Begin with the institution you want to see, then research its setting and the other stops that make sense around it.

Berlin’s Museum Island brings several museums into one historic setting on the Spree. Its architecture and development earned UNESCO World Heritage recognition in 1999. In Madrid, the Prado began welcoming the public in November 1819 as a royal museum. These are different ways to explore the history of collecting and public access to art: one through a museum ensemble, the other through the development of a major collection and its buildings.

What Travelers Need to Know

The museum operator’s one-day October 20 notice for the James-Simon-Galerie has expired and is no longer displayed. For current Berlin visits, check the entrance and hours page for the specific museum. The operator continues to list the Pergamonmuseum as completely closed for construction, while Pergamonmuseum. Das Panorama operates in a separate nearby building.

For any museum or exhibition, verify the specific building, entry time, ticket conditions and accessibility arrangements with its operator. A general city pass or tourism listing should not be treated as confirmation of admission to a particular exhibition.

Confirm transport connections and the local date and time at every stop before booking a tightly scheduled journey. For trips involving more than one country, use each responsible government’s current entry information; this planning guide does not establish passport, visa or border requirements.
