SPAC starts amphitheater upgrades as winter concertgoers face a separate venue change

By Bob LePage · Published October 15, 2026

New York's October 14 announcement outlines two different construction schedules. SPAC's current holiday listings still direct audiences to Skidmore College.

Official announcement: New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation · October 14, 2026

New York State Parks has begun a $2 million utilities and safety project at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center amphitheater in Saratoga Springs. The agency's October 14, 2026, announcement describes replacement electric water heaters, backstage electrical upgrades, a new elevator and expanded fire-protection coverage, with completion expected in spring 2027.

That work is distinct from the $12 million renovation of the nearby Spa Little Theater, which the same announcement says is expected to reopen in December 2026. The two venues have different projects and completion targets. Neither target should be treated as confirmation of the address for a particular performance.

For travelers making winter plans, SPAC's own listings provide an important qualification. Its current Spa Little Theater page says the upcoming concerts displayed there are being held at Skidmore College's Arthur Zankel Music Center. The individual page for the December 19 Brandenburg concert also names that off-site venue. The state's reopening expectation therefore does not establish that those ticket holders should go to the theater in the park.

The October announcement does not supply a day-by-day construction access map or announce a closure of Saratoga Spa State Park as a whole. It also does not say that the new amphitheater elevator is already available. Visitors should distinguish work intended to improve the facilities from the arrangements actually offered for their event date.

What Travelers Need to Know

Check the venue named on your individual event page and ticket before choosing parking or a drop-off point. The Spa Little Theater's usual address is 19 Roosevelt Drive; that is not the same destination as the temporary concert hall at Skidmore. Do not navigate to the park solely because an event appears under the Spa Little Theater heading.

For the December 19 Brandenburg concert, SPAC currently lists a 5 p.m. start and public ticket sales beginning October 16 at 10 a.m. Membership presales have separate dates. Use the official event page for the booking link and current terms; the construction announcement does not establish ticket prices, remaining seats or refund conditions.

Confirm accessible seating, arrival arrangements and the performance location directly with SPAC at 518-584-9330 when booking. For general park operations, call 518-584-2000. Recheck the operator's venue and construction pages closer to travel rather than interpreting an expected reopening month as a guaranteed return date for every program.

About the Location

Saratoga Performing Arts Center sits within Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, New York. Opened in 1966, the amphitheater brings major music and dance companies into a park setting. New York City Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra are among its resident ensembles. The surrounding National Historic Landmark landscape also offers mineral springs, walking routes, museums and other recreation.

The smaller theater predates SPAC: it was built in 1935 and has hosted activities ranging from mineral-water lectures to theatrical productions. SPAC took over its operations in 2022 and uses it for year-round programming. That history explains why the current work affects two different kinds of visit: a large outdoor summer performance and an intimate indoor concert outside the traditional summer season.
