Shiloh National Military Park has set aside a no-cost November 11 battlefield bus program for veterans, people now serving in the military and their spouses. The Veterans Day trip runs from noon to 4 p.m., and the National Park Service requires advance registration because seating is limited.
Eligible participants must reserve by calling the park at 731-689-5696. The release does not give a seat count or promise walk-up availability, so travelers should treat a telephone confirmation as essential before making the trip.
The four-hour format makes this a deeper battlefield program rather than a short visitor-center talk. Participants are advised to bring water and snacks and dress for the weather; November conditions in southwest Tennessee can change during an afternoon outdoors and on a tour bus.
Although Shiloh National Military Park also manages a Corinth unit in Mississippi, this event is at the Shiloh battlefield in Tennessee. The article is therefore routed to Tennessee rather than both states, avoiding the mistaken implication that the Veterans Day bus boards in Corinth.
What Travelers Need to Know
Call 731-689-5696 to register before traveling. Ask for the exact meeting point, arrival time and accessibility arrangements, and do not assume space remains because the tour is free.
Bring water and snacks for the noon-to-4 p.m. program and wear layers suitable for the day's forecast. Confirm whether food may be consumed on the bus and plan any needed meal before the tour.
Use the Shiloh Battlefield address at 1055 Pittsburg Landing Road, Shiloh, Tennessee, unless park staff gives a different assembly location. Do not navigate to the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center in Mississippi for this event.
Outside the special program, the battlefield grounds use a sunrise-to-sunset schedule and the Shiloh visitor center lists daily hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Confirm current conditions and holiday operations before departure; registering for the bus does not replace normal planning for the rest of the park visit.
About the Location
Shiloh Battlefield lies near Pittsburg Landing in Hardin County, Tennessee, about 110 miles from Memphis International Airport. Congress established the military park in 1894 to commemorate the April 6-7, 1862, Battle of Shiloh, which produced more than 23,000 casualties and became the largest engagement to that point in the Civil War's Mississippi Valley campaign.
The park now encompasses more than 5,200 acres and also interprets the campaign through the Corinth Battlefield Unit in Mississippi. For this program, however, the relevant setting is the Tennessee battlefield, where monuments, historic roads, fields and the landing help visitors follow the two-day battle across the landscape.
