Mexico City’s National Museum of Anthropology and the Embassy of Japan have scheduled four November dates for a program of workshops, performance and discussion. The Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia lists activities on November 5, 7, 14 and 27 at the museum in Chapultepec, with the final evening ending in a City Pop and anime-song concert at 7 p.m.

The November 5 opening includes origami and calligraphy workshops at 10 a.m., a noon wadaiko performance, an ikebana demonstration and a 5 p.m. archaeology colloquium. On November 7, a calligraphy workshop begins at 10 a.m. and a tea-ceremony presentation follows at noon. Both dates include sessions capped at 20 participants.

The November 14 schedule pairs a 10 a.m. origami workshop with a noon talk and sushi tasting; the release caps that activity at 30 people. On November 27, the museum plans a 4:30 p.m. discussion of Japanese immigration memories before the 7 p.m. concert. INAH describes the program as free but says it is not an exhibition and that ordinary visits to the museum’s collections require an admission ticket.

What Travelers Need to Know

Check the museum’s official channels for the selected session before arrival. The release warns that workshops and events have limited space but does not publish one universal registration method; a free program listing is not a guarantee of a seat.

Separate program admission from a general museum visit. INAH calls the scheduled activities free, while the museum currently lists general admission at MXN 210 and a MXN 105 rate for Mexican nationals and foreign residents. Statutory exemptions and Sunday terms require qualifying identification.

The museum is normally open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Paseo de la Reforma and Calzada Gandhi in Chapultepec. The November 27 concert begins after the ordinary closing hour, so follow the event instructions for access to the auditorium rather than assuming that all galleries remain open.

About the Location

The museum stands in the first section of Chapultepec at Paseo de la Reforma and Calzada Gandhi. Its current building opened on September 17, 1964, and contains 22 galleries devoted to Mexico’s archaeological record and the living cultures of Indigenous peoples; the institution traces its roots to a national museum founded in 1825.

That setting makes the Japan program a cultural exchange inside Mexico’s principal anthropology museum rather than a temporary gallery show. INAH places the series within the 70th anniversary of the Asociación México Japonesa and says the talks will address Japanese archaeological work in Mexico as well as the history of Japanese immigration.
