The National Park Service and partners have published a Visitor Use Management Plan for the Virginia Triple Crown Segment of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. The Virginia Triple Crown Segment includes the iconic Dragon’s Tooth, McAfee Knob, and Tinker Cliffs areas. This plan will guide long term visitor management in this area.

Three national scenic trails designated as units of the National Park System

Three national scenic trails have become the country’s newest national parks, raising the total number of existing parks from 425 to 428. The Ice Age, New England, and North Country national scenic trails, all previously established by Congress and administered by the National Park Service as part of the National Trails System, are now also recognized as units of the National Park System.

Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park announces the debut of a new traveling exhibition featuring the work of two of American history’s most distinguished sculptors. “Monuments and Myths: The America of Sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Daniel Chester French” includes several pieces that have never or seldom been on exhibit before. The national tour opens in Alabama on May 31 and will travel to additional sites over the next two years.

Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park Celebrates National Public Lands Day with Sculptural Visions and Star Party, September 24

On Saturday, September 24, Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park will host its annual Sculptural Visions event and a Star Party for National Public Lands Day. Sculptural Visions will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Star Party will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Entry to the park is free for National Public Lands Day.

Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park is pleased to announce its 2022 Sculptor-in-Residence (SIR), Sean Hunter Williams. His time at the park will include open studio hours Wednesday through Sunday from June through October, regular presentations discussing the process of bronze sculpture as practiced historically and by contemporary sculptors, and a series of Saturday afternoon sketching and sculpture workshops.

Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park expands the story of sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens with the release of “To Heal the Wounded Nation’s Life: African Americans and the Robert Gould Shaw/54th Regiment Memorial” by historian Kathryn Grover. The special history study examines African Americans’ involvement in the creation of the Col. Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment Memorial (Shaw/54th Memorial), reactions to its completion, and feelings about this unique Civil War memorial over time.

Authorities seek information on vandalism of Temple Monument at Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park

National Park Service law enforcement rangers and New Hampshire State Police seek tips regarding recent vandalism at Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park. Investigators are looking for additional information from anyone who may have observed activity leading to the vandalism. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 1-888-653-0009. Anonymous tips can be emailed to nps_isb@nps.gov or sent by text message or voicemail to 1-888-653-0009.

All Overnight Shelters and Privies on Lands Administered by the Appalachian National Scenic Trail Park Office Closed Until Further Notice

Effective immediately, the National Park Service is closing all overnight shelters (56 total) and privies (75 total) on land administered by the Appalachian National Scenic Trail Park Office in the states of VA (10 shelters, 12 privies), MD (1 shelter, 2 privies), PA (8 shelters, 6 privies), NJ (1 shelter, 1 privy), NY (5 shelters, 5 privies), CT (7 shelters, 16 privies), MA (1 shelter, 4 privies), and ME (22 shelters, 29 privies). These closures are consistent with and in concurrence of our state and non-profit partners. These modifications to operations are in support of federal, state, and local efforts to ensure the health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, partners, and local communities. These closures will be in effect until further notice.

Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park is pleased to announce its 2019 Sculptor-in-Residence (SIR), Daniel Willig, a figurative sculptor with a focus on high relief technique. Willig joins the staff at Saint-Gaudens for a second season, after serving as the SIR in 2018. His time at the park will include open studio hours Wednesday through Sunday from June through October, regular presentations discussing the process of bronze sculpture as practiced historically and by contemporary sculptors, and a series of Saturday afternoon sketching and sculpture workshops beginning June 22.
