The National Park Service is excited to welcome visitors to celebrate National Park Week from Saturday, August 22 through Sunday, August 30, as dozens of sites across the region mark the 2026 theme, “Celebrate America’s Story,” highlighting the 250th anniversary of American independence and recognizing our shared American heritage of national parks.

Catoctin Mountain Park announces upcoming closures on Park Central Road

Thurmont, Md. – Catoctin Mountain Park will begin repaving work on Park Central Road on Monday, March 30. The work will include closures of sections of Park Central Road between the Visitor Center and the Hog Rock parking lot. The closures will be in place Monday through Friday. On weekends, the road will be fully open. Work is expected to continue for 4-6 weeks.

Catoctin Mountain Park announces road work

Thurmont, Md. – Catoctin Mountain Park will conduct road work beginning on Monday, July 21. The work will address serious deficiencies on Foxville Deerfield Road and Park Central Road. It is expected to continue through the end of October with full road closures in place for periods of time.

Catoctin Mountain Park's Conservation Efforts Inspired by the Civilian Conservation Corps Live on Through the Youth Conservation Corps and Appalachian Conservation Corps

Thurmont, MD - To help our next generation of conservation stewards get involved in preservation, Catoctin Mountain Park has been creating youth opportunities and projects since the 1970s. Through youth programs, like the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) and Conservation Legacy’s Appalachian Conservation Corps (ACC), youth are restoring the cultural and natural resources of national parks and public lands.

Catoctin Mountain Park plans for road repairs on Foxfield-Deerfield Road

Thurmont, Md. – Catoctin Mountain Park plans to conduct emergency road repairs on Foxfield-Deerfield Road on Tuesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 11, 2024, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Traffic will be limited to one-lane with full closures in place for short periods of time to allow maintenance workers to fill potholes and stabilize road shoulders. Park law enforcement will direct traffic to ensure the safety of workers and travelers.

Catoctin Mountain Park plans prescribed burn

Thurmont, Md. – Fire managers at Catoctin Mountain Park plan to burn approximately 20 acres of forest near Chimney Rock sometime between March 25 and April 30, 2024, weather permitting. A notice will be posted on the park website and social media when a date is finalized. Fire managers anticipate one day of operations to complete the project.

Catoctin Mountain Park announces 2024 Youth Conservation Corps Program

Thurmont, Md. – The National Park Service (NPS) is accepting applications through April 1st for the 2024 Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program at Catoctin Mountain Park. This is an exciting opportunity for high school students to spend eight weeks this summer doing meaningful outdoor work in a national park site from June 17 – August 9, 2024.
