Madison invites residents to review proposed data-center rules October 27

Staff Writer · 2026-10-15 · Madison

Madison plans an online public meeting October 27 at 5:30 p.m. on a draft zoning framework for data centers. Registration is required for the meeting link; the recommendations have not been adopted.

Madison’s October 6 notice sets a Zoom discussion for October 27 at 5:30 p.m. Register through the official notice to receive the link; no registration cutoff is given. The city plans to post a recording.

Staff recommends three facility-size categories, one data-center building per property and a 100,000-square-foot ceiling. A map separating larger facilities from residential and open-space areas is unfinished. These are recommendations, not adopted zoning or approval of a particular project.

The current moratorium applies to new principal-use data centers above 10,000 square feet, not servers supporting another primary activity. The Sustainable Madison Committee and Business and Economic Resources Committee will discuss the framework October 19 and 21, respectively.

Ordinance drafting and later public review would follow; those hearing dates are not specified. Consult the linked city notice and moratorium FAQ for updates before attending.
