Fairfax home child-care proposals go to virtual meetings this month

Staff Writer · 2026-10-14 · Fairfax County

Fairfax County is seeking feedback on proposed home child-care zoning changes at virtual meetings October 14, 15 and 21, 2026. The proposals address permitting, capacity and pickup arrangements; public hearings have not been scheduled.

The meetings are a chance to comment, not an application for a child-care permit. Parents, residents and current or prospective providers can discuss staff proposals to simplify reviews, allow more children through an administrative permit and set standards for pickup and drop-off areas. These are proposed changes, not adopted operating rules.

The project page lists October 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., October 15 from noon to 1 p.m. and October 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The final session includes live Spanish translation. The county says no advance registration is needed and each meeting covers the same material; recordings will follow.

Use the county’s project page at https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/planning-development/zoning-ordinance/amendments/home-day-care for the draft, joining links and current contact details. The pages do not explicitly label the meeting time zone. No final adoption date or guaranteed new child-care place is announced.
