Burlington’s October 28 meeting seeks input on Main Street options

Staff Writer · 2026-10-15 · Burlington

Burlington and the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission will hold a Main Street transportation-study open house on October 28, 2026, from 5–7 p.m. at Contois Auditorium in City Hall, with a 6 p.m. presentation. The team is seeking comments on draft walking and bicycling alternatives, not announcing an approved construction project.

The meeting is at 149 Church Street, on City Hall’s second floor. Residents, businesses and people who use Main Street can review the draft options and explain where crossings, bicycle connections or other travel conditions need attention. The study page says the alternatives follow feedback from the first public meeting in February.

The commission, Burlington and consultant VHB are studying a continuous multimodal connection between the waterfront and the new walking and bicycling bridge over Interstate 89 at Exit 14. The work also examines traffic signals and the Main Street junction with East Avenue and Spear Street. It builds on the separate Great Streets work between Battery and Union streets; the open house should not be mistaken for a construction-start notice for the whole corridor.

If you cannot attend, the project page invites comments by email to Jason Charest at jcharest@ccrpcvt.org. It does not state a final email-comment cutoff. The October meeting flyer is still described as forthcoming, so use the current city calendar and project page to check for changes before attending.

An advisory group reviews materials and helps develop recommendations. The project page identifies City Council consideration and endorsement as a later step. It does not establish a final design, construction budget or building timetable. Public feedback at this stage concerns alternatives that remain under study.
