Utah receives $16.5 million for two veterans-cemetery projects

Staff Writer · 2026-10-03 · Washington Terrace and Bluffdale

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs awarded Utah grants of up to $14.74 million to establish a veterans cemetery in Washington Terrace and up to $1.91 million to expand the existing veterans cemetery in Bluffdale.

The planned Northern Utah Veterans Cemetery in Washington Terrace is intended to serve more than 4,000 area veterans and eligible family members. The announced project includes 500 pre-placed crypts, 600 columbarium niches, 550 in-ground cremains gravesites, a memorial wall and supporting infrastructure.

At the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, the grant will fund 1,400 additional columbarium niches plus landscaping and irrigation updates. The state says that cemetery serves more than 102,000 veterans and family members in the region.

The October 1 announcement does not provide construction-start or completion dates. Families should consult the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs for later project schedules and official burial-eligibility information.
