The October 5 vote completed West Fargo’s city budget process after commissioners adopted guiding principles in March. City officials described the priorities as long-term financial stability, managed growth and maintaining municipal services.
For residents, the staffing change is narrow: one full-time employee will be added to the utilities team, while every other city department remains at its current staffing level. The final budget also assumes higher utility revenue from rate changes; the city cautions that household impacts vary with water use, meter size and garbage or dumpster service.
The budget book calculates a 5.4% increase in property-tax revenue under the new state framework, combining the permitted 3% increase with 2.4% attributed to new growth. That figure describes citywide levy revenue, not a guaranteed 5.4% change for every property owner.
The city’s next stated step is to certify the final budget and send it to the Cass County Auditor. Residents can review the full adopted budget and budget timeline on the city’s budget page; later amendments, if any, should also appear there.
