Raleigh’s October 24 recycling event has limits for paper and batteries

Staff Writer · 2026-10-15 · Raleigh

Raleigh Solid Waste Services announced an October 24, 2026, Shred + Dead event for document shredding, electronics and household-battery collection at Wilders Grove, 630 Beacon Lake Drive, from 9 a.m. to noon. The October 14 notice, updated October 15, says advance registration is welcome but not compulsory; the linked event instructions set paper-volume limits and exclude several large items.

Households should sort confidential documents into a separate load for the shredding station. The city limits paper to four banker-sized boxes or four 13-gallon bags per household or business, and asks households to make only one visit. Routine recyclable paper belongs in the regular recycling stream, not the shredding queue.

Small appliances and electronic equipment are accepted, but washers, dryers, ovens, refrigerators and pianos are not. Household alkaline and lithium-ion batteries are included. Vehicle batteries and damaged or leaking batteries are excluded. These limits apply to this event; the announcement is not a promise that every unwanted item will be collected.

At Corporation Parkway and Commerce Park Drive, turn toward the visitors’ and employees’ main entrance and follow the event signs. Drop-off will operate as a drive-through, with staff and pedestrians nearby. The city’s event page provides the optional registration link and current instructions. Check it before loading a vehicle in case the arrangements change.
