The New Mexico General Services Department selected Hartman + Majewski Design Group for the next planning stage of the State Fairgrounds redevelopment in Albuquerque’s International District. The October 9 announcement assigns the local architecture, planning and engineering firm to produce the detailed master plan; it does not approve final construction or identify an anchor developer.
The planned redevelopment combines public and private uses, including a park, safer pedestrian connections, housing, commercial space and a sports stadium. Phase One could include housing, parks, an event center and a stadium, but the release describes those components as possibilities rather than a final, permitted design.
The department has separately issued a request for proposals for an anchor developer and says it expects to make that selection in December. The selected developer would use the new master plan to shape Phase One, with the General Services Department overseeing development.
State officials project that the multi-year effort could support about 940 jobs annually over 30 years. That figure is a forecast, not a completed hiring result. The announcement does not establish a resident application, public-comment deadline or construction start date, so those details remain to be supplied in later planning and procurement actions.
