Gulfport offers self-serve sandbags ahead of storms

Staff Writer · 2026-10-04 · Gulfport

Gulfport is distributing up to 10 self-serve sandbags per household from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the weekend, while supplies and conditions allow, at three city locations.

The city says Gulfport residents can collect sandbags at the intersection of Hewes Avenue and Glover Street, the Orange Grove Community Center at 14416 Dedeaux Road, or Gulfport Fire Station 2 at 42nd Avenue and 12th Street.

Sandbags and shovels are provided, but residents should be ready to fill and load their own bags. City staff will assist elderly residents who need help filling or loading them.

Distribution is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the weekend as needed and as conditions allow. Supplies are limited to 10 bags per household and remain available only while supplies last; the city asks households to take only what they need. Public Works can be reached at 228-868-5740 for more information.
