Grand Rapids reopens $20,000 gun-violence memorial art RFP

Staff Writer · 2026-10-04 · Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids reopened its request for proposals for a gun-violence memorial art installation, with responses due October 16 at 4 p.m. and a project budget capped at $20,000.

The City of Grand Rapids reopened the submission period after artists said the original schedule overlapped with ArtPrize and limited their ability to participate. New and returning artists may submit proposals, and anyone who applied under the earlier timetable must submit again through the reopened process.

The city is seeking a durable three-dimensional or mixed-media work suitable for indoor and outdoor display. The selected artist must include a pedestal or base, storage container and installation instructions, and the completed work must be deliverable and installable by no more than two people. The total project budget may not exceed $20,000 and must cover materials, labor and related expenses.

A committee of survivors, families affected by gun violence, SAFE Task Force members and Grand Rapids Police Department representatives will review submissions. Proposals are due at 4 p.m. on October 16, 2026, through the city's BidNet Direct procurement portal; prospective applicants should review the full solicitation there before submitting.
