Maryland seeks nutrition-service feedback by October 14

Staff Writer · 2026-10-14

Maryland’s health department is collecting public input until 5 p.m. October 14, 2026 on possible food and nutrition services in Medicaid beginning in 2028. This is a planning consultation, not a benefit application or grant competition.

The consultation is not an enrollment window for a new Medicaid benefit. The department is considering medically tailored meals and other nutrition services under In Lieu of Services and Settings authority; the final service mix and eligibility arrangements are still being developed.

Medicaid participants, health providers, community organizations, local governments and other interested people may respond. Use the online form linked from the official notice or email mdh.ilosrfi@maryland.gov. Responses can discuss practical issues such as referrals, food sourcing and delivery capacity. The background document says individual submissions will not be publicly shared and the department will issue a feedback summary.

The notice gives a 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 14 deadline but does not label its time zone. It also lists a Baltimore virtual listening session on October 15, after that written-response cutoff; readers should confirm with the department how later session comments will be handled. No deadline extension is stated.

No contract or grant will be awarded from these responses. The background document describes future participation as optional for managed care plans and enrollees, rather than a guaranteed statewide entitlement.
