Portland plans Mountfort Street closure for sewer replacement

Staff Writer · 2026-10-02 · Portland

Portland says Mountfort Street will close to through traffic between Congress and Federal streets from October 5 through about October 9, 2026, while a city contractor replaces a sewer line.

The city’s contractor, Gorham Sand & Gravel, may stage equipment as early as October 2 and is expected to begin work October 5. Portland says the project should take about one week, although construction timing can change with field conditions.

Through traffic must use another route during the project. The city says local vehicles will retain access to private driveways from the Federal Street end of Mountfort Street.

The work is part of Portland’s 2025–2028 Neighborhood Drainage and Sewer System Repair Contract. Drivers should follow posted controls and check the official project notice for any schedule changes.
