Louisville Metro says the Department of Transportation developed the plan with HDR Engineering using traffic, roadway and land-use data plus public feedback. Its recommendations cover specific truck-route improvements, neighborhood traffic calming, systemwide programs, routing technology and possible policy changes.
For residents and freight operators, the plan identifies potential fixes such as improvements near the Third Street railroad bridge, sharing Louisville Primary Truck Network data with commercial navigation providers and evaluating truck restrictions. The plan itself does not fund construction, set a construction schedule or immediately change truck restrictions.
The plan recommends that LouDOT designate a freight-mobility lead, form an advisory committee, prepare capital budget requests and develop priority roadway lists during the first year. Some restrictions would require a Metro ordinance, state-road transfers or changes to Kentucky law. Residents and businesses should watch future Metro budgets, project-design notices and legislative proposals for binding decisions and confirmed implementation dates.
