Lexington plans West Short Street lane closure for raised-crosswalk work

Staff Writer · 2026-10-02 · Lexington

Lexington says one lane of West Short Street at Market Street will close around the clock from October 5 through October 16 while crews build a raised crosswalk, with active work generally scheduled on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The city says the project will include milling, paving and restriping at the West Short Street and Market Street intersection. Drivers should expect one lane to remain closed throughout the work window, not only during active construction hours.

The raised crossing is intended to slow vehicles and improve pedestrian visibility. The city’s notice gives an October 5 start and October 16 expected completion date, but construction timing can change with weather or field conditions.

Travelers using downtown Lexington should allow additional time and follow posted traffic controls. The official notice does not announce a full street closure or a signed detour route.
