Lexington expands paramedicine support for people without stable housing

Staff Writer · 2026-10-14 · Lexington

Mayor Linda Gorton announced on October 14, 2026, that Lexington received $462,523 through Kentucky’s Rural Health Transformation Crisis to Care Program. The grant supports two civilian positions and one firefighter, along with supplies, training and other resources for Community Paramedicine, with additional attention to people experiencing homelessness or unstable housing.

This award funds a city service rather than a cash benefit that residents can apply to receive. Lexington’s existing paramedicine teams connect people with support after substance-related emergency calls, make home visits for patients with ongoing medical needs, and respond to behavioral health crises. The expansion adds staffing and resources to that work.

The announcement also lists transportation assistance, equipment, technology and clinical supplies among the supported costs. Funding originates with the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and is administered through Kentucky’s Department for Public Health. The city gives no hiring timetable or confirmed start date for the expanded services.

For non-emergency program information, the city’s Community Paramedicine page lists 859-280-8951 and janna@lexingtonky.gov. The release does not establish a new resident application deadline, guarantee a particular service to every person, or explain individual eligibility for transportation help. Ask the program about the available support and referral process before treating this announcement as an enrollment offer.
