Kansas rural communities can apply for SEED grants through October 19

Staff Writer · 2026-10-02

Kansas is accepting SEED grant applications for quality-of-life projects in communities with fewer than 5,000 residents. Awards range from $10,000 to $25,000, require a 10% match and may cover as many as three projects in one application.

The Kansas Department of Commerce lists four eligible project categories: childcare and senior programming, community-vibrancy improvements, food-retail access and libraries. Applications are competitive, and the department expects to announce awards in December.

Applicants must use the state’s online portal. The official page says the application window closes October 19 at 5 p.m., but it does not identify a time zone; applicants should confirm the closing time with the department instead of assuming. Office hours are offered at 2 p.m. on October 5, 12 and 19.

Construction-related work must begin within four months of the award, eligible expenses must occur after a grant agreement is executed, and the published schedule says projects must be completed by December 31, 2027. Historic properties may also require State Historic Preservation Office approval.
