Hawaii extends SNAP food-loss replacement reporting through October 15

Staff Writer · 2026-10-03

Hawaii SNAP households affected by Hurricane Nolo or a subsequent wildfire may report disaster-related food losses through October 15, 2026, under a USDA-authorized extension announced October 2.

The extension applies to SNAP households in Hawaii County, Maui County and Oahu ZIP code 96731 in Kahuku. It covers food bought with SNAP that was destroyed because of the hurricane-related outages or wildfire impacts beginning September 25 and 26.

A replacement may cover the value of the lost SNAP-purchased food, up to the household's monthly benefit amount. The request must include a signed statement with the participant's name, date of loss, estimated value, a brief description of what happened and contact information.

A state sample statement is available, but applicants may submit their own written statement. Deliver the signed statement to any Hawaii Department of Human Services Processing Center. The release gives October 15 as the reporting date but no closing time, so households should not wait until the final day. For help, call 1-855-643-1643.
