Honolulu warns residents about fake house-auction notices

Staff Writer · 2026-10-03 · Honolulu

Honolulu's Real Property Assessment Division is warning that fraudulent flyers are falsely claiming residential properties have been abandoned and scheduled for public auction.

The city says recipients should not call, text or email contacts printed on a suspicious flyer. Do not send money, deposits, personal information or property information in response.

A notice appearing to concern a Honolulu property should be verified directly with the Real Property Assessment Division. Use 808-768-3799 or bfsrpmailbox@honolulu.gov rather than contact information printed on the flyer.

The alert does not say that every auction notice is fraudulent. Its practical instruction is to verify a notice with the city before responding or paying anyone.
