Florida's rural infrastructure awards fund local projects, not household grants

Staff Writer · 2026-10-14

Governor Ron DeSantis announced $27 million in Rural Infrastructure Fund awards to 14 Florida communities on October 13, 2026, for roads, utilities, parking, shoreline protection and health facilities. Century separately received $499,500 from the Job Growth Grant Fund for building and fire-suppression upgrades for a potential tenant.

These awards support local-government projects, not applications for cash aid to households. The announcement does not say the funded facilities are already operating.

Tavares receives $300,000 for a stormwater study; Jay receives $100,000 to evaluate its wastewater plant. Those studies are not final construction approvals.

Quoted remarks also mention $24.3 million for 12 additional communities without separately itemizing them. That amount has not been added to the $27 million. Local notices must confirm completion dates and any construction disruptions.
