Florida’s $1 million tourism allocation funds a campaign, not repair grants

Staff Writer · 2026-10-15

Governor Ron DeSantis announced October 14, 2026, that VISIT FLORIDA will award $1 million to the Northwest Florida Tourism Council for post-Isaias tourism marketing. The eight-county partnership will promote fall and winter visits, with VISIT FLORIDA coordinating the launch with local tourism leaders.

Businesses are not being invited to apply for a share of this award. The recipient is the regional tourism council, and the money comes from VISIT FLORIDA’s crisis-recovery budget. The announcement describes promotion, not payments for a damaged shop, home or roadway.

The campaign will focus on people traveling by road and give additional support to the hardest-hit counties. The release does not identify a launch date, county-by-county allocations or a business application process.

The Governor’s Office cites $327 million in additional visitor spending and nearly 3,000 supported jobs from a 2024–25 partnership. Those are reported past results, not confirmed outcomes of the new award. Marketing funding also does not establish that every destination or business has reopened.
