Delaware care providers can seek meal reimbursements through CACFP

Staff Writer · 2026-10-15

Delaware's Department of Education is recruiting Child and Adult Care Food Program sponsors. Its October 14 notice covers qualifying care centers, family day care homes, shelters and afterschool programs, with reimbursement dependent on federal program rules and participant eligibility.

This is reimbursement for qualifying food service, not an unrestricted operating grant. The department's published income table applies from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Providers should ask the department about approval and recordkeeping before treating meal costs as reimbursable.

The official CACFP program page links to sponsor expectations and a new-sponsor interest form; completing that form starts a discussion about next steps rather than establishing approval. Organizations unable to administer sponsorship can email CACFP@doe.k12.de.us for help finding a sponsor. The Nutrition Programs Workgroup also takes questions at 302-857-3356.

The October 14 notice does not set an application cutoff. Providers should confirm the requirements for their particular setting; the state's program page describes separate rules for centers, homes, shelters and afterschool care.
