CTDOT schedules Voluntown bridge-replacement meeting

Staff Writer · 2026-10-03 · Voluntown

The Connecticut Department of Transportation will hold a virtual public meeting November 3, 2026, on a proposed $7 million replacement of the Route 49 bridge over the Pachaug River in Voluntown, followed by a two-week public-comment period.

The virtual meeting begins at 6 p.m. Eastern time and will cover the replacement of Bridge No. 01012 on Route 49, also known as Ekonk Hill Road. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation, and CTDOT will post a recording afterward.

CTDOT says right-of-way impacts are expected to be minimal. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2029, subject to funding, right-of-way acquisition and permit approvals; the current funding plan is 80 percent federal and 20 percent state.

Residents may submit comments through November 17, 2026, using the project email addresses or phone numbers in the official notice and should reference Project No. 0147-0063. Free language assistance may be requested at least five business days before the meeting.
