Aurora starts Nine Mile pedestrian bridge construction

Staff Writer · 2026-10-04 · Aurora

Aurora has begun a $9.3 million pedestrian-bridge project over Parker Road near Interstate 225, with initial lane impacts this fall and completion expected in fall 2027.

The City of Aurora and prime contractor JHL Constructors have started work on a pedestrian bridge linking the RTD Nine Mile Station with homes and businesses north of Parker Road. The city says the $9.3 million project is intended to create a safer crossing and improve walking, transit and regional multimodal connections.

Initial work from September through November includes site preparation, erosion control and utility preparation. The city expects limited on-site activity over winter, foundation and ramp construction beginning in spring 2027, bridge installation in summer 2027 and full completion in fall 2027.

General work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. During initial work, motorists should expect intermittent single-lane closures on Parker Road between South Peoria Street and Interstate 225: northbound closures from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and southbound closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The city says all lanes will remain open during peak travel periods for this phase.

Drivers should check CoTrip before traveling because lane restrictions can change. Transit riders should monitor RTD service notices. The city lists a project hotline at 720-793-4984 and a dedicated project page for construction updates; the announcement does not create an application or eligibility process for residents or businesses.
