The Local Government Waste Tire Enforcement Grant Program is open to California cities, counties, and combined city-and-county governments. New and returning applicants generally must have at least 50 active waste-tire businesses in a county jurisdiction or 100 in a city jurisdiction, using CalRecycle Tire Program Identification numbers.
CalRecycle says $6.25 million is available for the 2026-27 cycle, subject to funding availability. Maximum awards are tied to qualifying population: up to $350,000 for populations of 900,000 or fewer, up to $500,000 for 900,001 to 2 million, and up to $650,000 for more than 2 million.
Applications must be submitted through CalRecycle's Grants Management System by 11:59 p.m. Pacific on October 8. Customer service is available only until 4 p.m. that day. Required authorization documents not submitted with the application must be uploaded by November 10; the official page does not state a clock time for that secondary date, so no time has been inferred.
Eligible work includes inspections of waste-tire businesses, field patrol and enforcement, investigation of illegal tire disposal or hauling, and education for waste-tire businesses. Applicants must designate a qualified managing entity, and collaborative applications require authorization from the participating jurisdictions.
