Southern Alabama faces heavy rain and coastal flood risk through Sunday

Staff Writer · 2026-10-04

Alabama Emergency Management Agency says a Flood Watch covers Mobile and Baldwin counties through Sunday evening, with 4–6 inches of rain forecast near the coast and isolated totals potentially above 10 inches.

Alabama EMA says intermittent heavy-rain bands from a Gulf tropical wave will move into southern Alabama through Sunday. The heaviest 12-to-18-hour period is expected from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon, focused near the coast, and rain could continue into Monday morning.

The agency forecasts total rainfall through Monday afternoon of up to 1 inch north of Interstate 59, 2–4 inches south of Interstate 59 and 4–6 inches near the coast. Some far-southern locations could receive more than 6 inches, with localized coastal totals potentially exceeding 10 inches. A tornado or two near the coast Saturday night was described as possible but uncertain.

Residents in Mobile and Baldwin counties should follow local emergency-management and National Weather Service alerts, avoid flooded roads and be prepared for the Flood Watch to be extended if rain lingers. The state notice does not announce closures or evacuation orders; those decisions, if needed, would come from local officials or weather authorities.
