From Desk Job to SlushMaster: A Dallas Entrepreneur’s Push to Build PopadoSlush
Commercial real estate appraiser Brad Linford is developing a product intended to turn canned beverages into slush—and sharing the challenges of building a business while working and raising a family.
Brad Linford spends his working days determining what commercial real estate is worth. Outside that work, he is tackling a different question: Can a familiar frustration become the foundation of a business?
Linford, a husband and father of four originally from Idaho and now living in Dallas, is the founder of PopadoSlush. His product concept aims to turn a favorite canned beverage into slush directly inside the can, without adding ice.
The business remains in development, with a Kickstarter launch targeted for May 2027, according to Linford. For now, his work centers on moving from prototypes toward a product that everyday consumers can use consistently.
The inspiration came from something most drinkers recognize: A cold beverage gradually warms up, while adding ice can dilute its flavor. Linford wondered why chilling a drink could not be as convenient as heating something in a microwave. That question took him beyond real estate and into product development, manufacturing research and brand building.
Turning a Frustration Into a Product
Linford calls the effect of melting ice “dilution pollution.” The phrase captures the problem he wants PopadoSlush to address: keeping a beverage enjoyable without introducing water from outside the drink.
His goal is a smooth, cold slush made from the beverage itself. Achieving that result reliably is still part of the development process. PopadoSlush remains under development, and its intended benefits are goals the company is working to deliver.
Building Around Work and Family
For Linford, development takes place alongside appraisal deadlines and family responsibilities. His account describes rounds of prototype testing, questions about temperatures, manufacturing decisions and periods spent waiting for another version to arrive. A promising test does not necessarily settle the next problem.
He is also learning to become the public face of his venture. Presenting himself online as the “SlushMaster” means stepping away from the familiarity of desk work and explaining an unfinished idea to potential supporters.
Using AI—and Seeking Human Expertise
Linford credits artificial intelligence with helping him research, organize ideas and manage work that would have been difficult to handle alone. Product testing, business decisions and relationship building still require his direct involvement.
He is sharing the development journey on LinkedIn to connect with people who understand beverages, manufacturing, retail and consumer brands. He also wants others to have an opportunity to influence the product while it is taking shape.
The Road to May 2027
The targeted Kickstarter launch gives PopadoSlush a milestone, but substantial development work remains. Linford describes the venture with optimism while acknowledging that success is uncertain.
Whether PopadoSlush ultimately delivers the experience he envisions will depend on execution. For now, a commercial real estate appraiser is working toward becoming something else as well—a founder with a finished product.
