New Jersey Governor’s Office

The issuing organization did not supply a publication date.

Added to The State & Nation: October 2, 2026

What this means

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill issued an October 2, 2026 statement criticizing President Donald Trump’s economic record in response to the latest jobs report. Sherrill claimed job growth had fallen nearly 80% since Trump took office, wage growth was negative and federal policies raised household costs through tariffs, mortgages and gasoline. She contrasted those claims with her administration’s actions on permitting backlogs and energy bills. The release is a political statement and does not include the underlying jobs data or announce a new program in this document.

"This morning’s jobs report is yet another example of how Donald Trump’s economy is a bust, with New Jersey families paying the price. As the corrupt President and his family makes billions from crypto and foreign governments, jobs growth for working families has been stunningly bad, falling by almost 80% since Trump took office, while wage growth is now negative. Not only that, his policies are costing New Jerseyans an extra $4,000 from his illegal tariffs, another $4,000 on their mortgages, and $1,500 at the gas pump each year.

"I’m charting a different path forward for New Jerseyans – one that is laser focused on economic opportunity and affordability. We’re cutting permitting red tape and helping businesses, including reducing DEP’s most complex permit backlog by 74 percent and eliminating DOT’s largest permit backlog completely. I’ve also already taken action that will save families $1 billion a year on their energy bills – because in New Jersey, we are committed to delivering for working families."
