Funds available to local organizations to support events educating about practices that promote healthy soils

The 2027 Local Soil Health Workshop Grant has opened for applications under the Utah Soil Health Partnership at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF). The grant opens every other year to individuals, non-governmental organizations, public agencies, or other agents who want to host educational events and peer-learning opportunities about soil health and agricultural conservation for their communities.

Soil health is a developing field that studies and validates agricultural practices that reduce synthetic input and soil disturbance and encourage high levels of organic activity and healthy ecological systems working alongside healthy agricultural production. The Utah Soil Health Partnership was created in 2021 to unite Utah agricultural organizations in education and exploration of these practices on Utah soils.

The Utah Soil Health Partnership hosts and attends events throughout the year to educate and build connections between producers interested in soil health practices that increase water efficiency, nutrition, organic matter, and reduce inputs on agricultural land. The Local Soil Health Workshop Grant enables producers and organizations to bring education on soil health to Utahns in rural areas or others who may not have been reached by the Utah Soil Health Partnership.

Grants will be awarded in amounts of $1,500-$10,000, and eligible events must be held during the 2027 calendar year. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact [email protected] with any questions about the grant program.
