What this means
Governor Janet Mills issued a September 14 statement opposing a reported federal proposal to repeal the Environmental Protection Agency’s endangerment finding for power plants. Mills argued that removing emissions restrictions would harm public health and increase climate-related damage and taxpayer costs in Maine. The release presents the Governor’s position on a proposed federal action; it does not announce that the repeal was final.

Augusta, MAINE – Governor Janet Mills today released the following statement in response to news that the Trump Administration intends to repeal the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s “endangerment finding” for power plants:
“Let’s be clear about what the Trump Administration is proposing: allowing power plants that burn gas and coal to pump unlimited amounts of dangerous pollution into our atmosphere. These emissions endanger public health and contribute to the increasingly stronger storms that have washed out roads in the Oxford Hills, flooded towns like Madison and Skowhegan, and washed working waterfronts into the sea.
“The President calls climate change a ‘hoax.’ The real hoax is his promise to lower costs while he puts Maine taxpayers on the hook for future storm damage.”
