UPDATE:

The 85-year-old female from Smelterville, ID, succumbed to her injuries on 10/08.

Next of kin has been notified.

Idaho State Police is investigating a 2-vehicle injury crash which occurred on 10/05/2026 at 1:30 P.M. on Interstate 90 westbound near milepost 36.

A silver 2001 Toyota Corolla, driven by an 85-year-old female from Smelterville, ID, was travelling westbound on the interstate. A white 1996 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 68-year-old male from Wallace, ID was also travelling westbound on the Interstate. The Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck crashed into the Toyota Corolla. The driver of the Toyota Corolla sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local area hospital via air ambulance for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene then released.

The interstate was blocked for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes while responders worked at the scene, and has since been cleared as of 3:54 P.M. This crash remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies included: Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Idaho Transportation Department, Life Flight, and Silver Valley Fire Rescue.
