Harrisburg, PA - Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Rep. Craig Williams (R-160) announced today that nearly $50,000 in unclaimed property has been returned to residents and businesses across the 160th legislative district, following a recent event held at Rep. Williams’ office in Chester County.
“Unclaimed property belongs to the Pennsylvanians who earned it, and it’s our job at Treasury to make sure it finds its way back to its rightful owners. I appreciate Rep. Williams and his team for helping us return nearly $50,000 to residents and businesses throughout his district.”
Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity
Since taking office in 2021, Treasurer Garrity has returned more than $1.2 billion in unclaimed property, including a record of over $334 million last year.
“I am very grateful for the Treasury Department assisting our office unclaimed property event to return nearly $50,000 to our constituents. Few people realize how a seemingly small service from our offices can turn into a great financial benefit. One constituent was able to recover over $14,000. It was a very successful day for our neighbors, and therefore, for our team and Treasury as well."
Rep. Craig Williams (R-160)
Treasury is working to return more than $5 billion more to its rightful owners, including over $185 million available to residents in Delaware County and more than $126 million for those in Chester County. More than one in ten Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property, and the average claim is worth over $1,000.
Unclaimed property includes things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks and more. It can also include physical assets, such as collectible coins, jewelry and savings bonds, that most often come to Treasury as the contents of safe deposit boxes.
