WASHINGTON — Yesterday, Speaker Johnson joined Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Larry Kudlow to discuss House Republicans’ efforts to defy history and not turn the keys of government over to far-left Democrats.
“This is a contrast election between common sense and crazy. And the American people are not signing up for crazy,” Speaker Johnson said.
Watch the full interview here.
On the state of the midterms:
Larry, everywhere I go from coast to coast, and I’m traveling nonstop – 40 districts across 22 states this month alone. I’m going to the swing districts; I’m going to the places that the pundits and the pollsters say we’re going to lose. They are wrong. We have incredible turnout. As I said in that clip you played, it feels like 2024 to me when we defied the odds. I believe we can defy history and keep this majority. And our voters just need to ignore all the noise and go vote; do your civic duty. That’s why that enthusiasm has picked up right now. They understand this is a contrast election between common sense and crazy. And the American people are not signing up for crazy.
On the Democrat agenda:
If we turn this back over to Democrats right now, we know what the result would be. It’d be chaos. It would be big government socialism, a leap towards that. It would be higher prices, and Congress would be turned into a circus. They’re telling everyone on the campaign trail exactly what they want to do. And I’m not even talking about the Democrat Socialists of America platform, which we know you said they wanted to – they put in writing – they want to abolish the border, abolish prisons, defund the police, defund the Pentagon, pack the Supreme Court, remove the presidency. It’s madness.
But what the so-called establishment Democrats are saying is that they want to reverse the Working Families Tax Cuts, the biggest tax cut in U.S. history. They want to exact retribution on the Trump Administration and Republicans every hour of every day for the next two years. What would that do to the markets? What would that do to stability for us here? And what message would it send to our enemies around the world at this dangerous time?
On the contrast between common sense vs. crazy:
They want to defund border security. They want to pack the courts. This would be an absolute disaster, and I think that’s why you see the enthusiasm numbers going up. I think that’s why you see large crowds of Republicans and even Independents – people who believe in common sense. They understand you cannot turn the keys of government over to these crazy people. That’s what we have. You have two different candidates in every one of these House races across the country. Two different, completely different visions for who we are as America, and I think common sense is going to prevail.
