Harrisburg, PA - This Halloween, Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity is urging Pennsylvanians to skip the tricks and hunt for a treat: unclaimed property as individuals, businesses and organizations with names that include the words Pumpkin, Monster, Bat, Spider, Costume, Scare, Cat, Candy, Treat, Trick, Haunted, Broom, Ghost and Witch are connected to more than $90 million in unclaimed property that Treasury is working to return.
“Sometimes the scariest thing about unclaimed property is not knowing you have it. This Halloween, don’t let free money vanish into thin air, instead be sure to visit Treasury’s upgraded website, searchandclaimpa.gov, to see if you or someone you know has money waiting to be claimed.”
Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity
Treasury receives hundreds of millions of dollars in unclaimed property every year, often because of something as simple as a misspelled name or an out-of-date address.
Since taking office in 2021, Treasurer Garrity has returned more than $1.2 billion in unclaimed property and is working to return over $5 billion more that is safeguarded by Treasury. The average claim is worth over $1,000, and it’s owed to more than one in 10 Pennsylvanians.
Unclaimed property includes things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks and more. It can also include physical assets, such as collectible coins, jewelry and savings bonds, that most often come to Treasury as the contents of safe deposit boxes.
Anyone can search Treasury’s online database at any time by visiting searchandclaimpa.gov. Pennsylvanians who have lived in other states can also search for property at MissingMoney.com for money possibly waiting across the country.
