ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Moore joined McLaren leadership to celebrate the grand opening of the new McLaren Vehicle Processing Center (VPC), located at Tradepoint Atlantic in the Port of Baltimore. The new (VPC) represents an over $11 million investment – the largest commitment from McLaren in the nation – to facilitate vehicle shipments across America, supporting the state economy and providing opportunities for highly skilled automotive technicians, paint, logistics and management personnel in Baltimore.
“Our state is the best place for businesses to grow; and we are thrilled to house McLaren’s brand new processing center, creating new opportunities for Marylanders to thrive,” said Gov. Moore. “Our administration is committed to building a dynamic economy fueled by the most innovative businesses in the world. Maryland’s skilled workforce, state of the art infrastructure, and collaborative partnerships will help McLaren, as we turbocharge our state.”
The new facility is a custom-built automotive processing and vehicle enhancement center, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and advanced quality-control systems to deliver the highest standards in the preparation and finishing of McLaren supercars. Yesterday’s event included first hand demonstrations of the capabilities of the VPC, as well as interactions with a curated line up of McLaren supercars. Governor Moore was joined by McLaren Automotive CEO, Nick Collins, McLaren Automotive CCO, Henrik Wilhelmsmeyer, McLaren Automotive CQO, Jochen Schnez, and McLaren Americas President, Nicolas Brown.
"A little over a year ago, we came together to break ground on this facility, and now it is open and functioning as one of the most advanced VPCs in the world,” said President of McLaren Americas Nicolas Brown. “This facility shows an incredible investment in the Americas market, and allows us the opportunity to better ensure every McLaren delivered in this region exceeds the standards our customers expect.”
The VPC was developed in partnership with Tradepoint Atlantic which has been committed to revitalizing the former steel making facility into a global industrial supply chain and logistics hub to provide new jobs and investment into the region’s economy.
“We are proud to welcome McLaren to Tradepoint Atlantic and to Baltimore. McLaren joins a growing roster of iconic automotive brands that have chosen Tradepoint as a critical link in their global supply chains,” said Managing Director of Tradepoint Atlantic Kerry Doyle. "This investment is another strong vote of confidence in the Port of Baltimore and reinforces our region’s longstanding prominence as one of the nation’s premier gateways for vehicle imports and automotive logistics. We look forward to supporting McLaren’s growth here and celebrating the jobs, investment, and economic activity this new facility will bring to our region.”
The VPC’s opening is another milestone in the Moore-Miller administration's work to grow lighthouse industries in the state, strengthen the state’s economy, and create opportunities for Maryland communities to benefit from industries shaping the future.
