California Governor’s Office

Issuer publication date: October 14, 2026

Added to The State & Nation: October 14, 2026

What this means

Governor Gavin Newsom directed CAL FIRE and Cal OES on October 14, 2026, to place additional firefighting resources near communities facing forecast Santa Ana winds and elevated wildfire danger, and to increase State Operations Center readiness. Cal OES deployments are scheduled for October 15–18, including Orange, Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties. California State Parks, the National Park Service and two regional mountain agencies will also coordinate Santa Monica Mountains park closures during Red Flag warnings, starting October 15, with access determined by location and conditions. The release warns of possible utility-ordered power shutoffs; it does not announce a statewide outage or closure of every park.
