Kentucky State Police Investigate Letcher County Stabbing
THORNTON, Ky. (October 25, 2026) – On Saturday, October 24, 2026, at approximately 10:19 p.m., Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 13 in Hazard, received a report of a female who had sustained a stab wound to the chest on Thornton Road in the Thornton community of Letcher County.
Troopers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. During the investigation, troopers identified Stuart Reynolds, 72, of Whitesburg, as the suspect and initiated efforts to locate him.
The victim was transported by Neon Fire and Rescue to Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Healthcare (A.R.H.) before being transferred to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment of injuries reported to be non-life-threatening.
Troopers were initially unable to locate Reynolds. However, KSP later received notification from Wise County 911 that Reynolds had been located on U.S. 23 in Wise County, Virginia. Reynolds was taken into custody on unrelated charges.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by Trooper Skylar Pelfrey. Kentucky assault-related charges against Reynolds are pending.
