INDEPENDENT OPINION & ANALYSISSTATE & NATION PERSPECTIVE
THE GOVERNMENT NEWS DESK
OUR EDITORIAL STANDARD

Evidence before allegiance.

A centrist viewpoint does not require splitting every argument down the middle. It requires applying a consistent test.

What we stand for

Sound public finances, economic opportunity, stable prices, accountable institutions, and policies that work for households and businesses. We support or criticize decisions on their merits, regardless of the party in power.

A clear position, with reasons

Each perspective states what we think, explains the strongest practical case for the decision, examines costs and risks, and identifies evidence that could change our view. We do not manufacture a controversy around routine administrative releases.

Official facts and editorial judgment

Each article identifies the agency, the release date, and the original source. What the release says is separated from our analysis. Government allegations, predictions, and claims of success are attributed to the agency rather than presented as independently established facts. A proposed rule is distinguished from a final rule.

Our coverage

This companion covers official press releases from the Federal Reserve Board, including FOMC releases, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Nightly coverage also reviews official White House announcements and House and Senate leadership and committee releases, including majority and minority publications. Coverage begins October 1, 2026; selected earlier releases provide context. Regional Reserve Bank publications and separate Treasury bureau feeds are outside this initial scope unless included in the central release lists.

Corrections

Source changes and factual corrections should be reflected in the affected article with a clear explanation. Editorial disagreements are not factual corrections. A change in position should identify the new evidence.

The companion relationship

The State & Nation is the companion destination for official releases. Perspective adds clearly labeled opinion. We are an independent publication, not affiliated with or endorsed by the Federal Reserve or Treasury.
