Maryland EBT cards: activation, replacement and official help
A new PIN completes chip-card activation. This resource guide explains missing-card help and account security without promising that an older card still works.

Finish activation, not just delivery
Maryland SNAP and cash-assistance cardholders who receive a chip-enabled EBT card need to complete activation, including choosing a new PIN. Use the directions packaged with the card or call EBT Vendor Services at 1-800-997-2222. Receiving the envelope alone is not the final step.
DHS says the card transition itself does not change the household's balance, benefit amount or payment schedule. That is a statement about the card change, not a guarantee of eligibility or future payments.
If the card is missing or will not work
The department's October 1 announcement directs people without a new card to request a replacement through the vendor's automated lost-or-stolen-card options, or seek help from their local social-services office. The same vendor number handles cards that fail to work.
A recent move can also require an address update. DHS lists its call center, 1-800-332-6347, and local offices as ways to make that change. Use the linked office directory to find the appropriate location; check directly before traveling.
Use the state's account-management links
Start at the DHS EBT updates page for official ebtEDGE app and portal links. The FAQ describes freezing a card to prevent purchases until it is unfrozen. Never give a card number or PIN to someone who calls or texts claiming to be state staff; DHS warns that its staff do not request those details that way.
An unresolved timing difference
The FAQ names September 30 as the old-card cutoff, but the October 1 release describes deactivation as still upcoming. These pages do not resolve an individual card's status. Do not count on an old card remaining usable: ask Vendor Services if activation or access is uncertain. This guide does not announce a new deadline or benefit offer.
