October 15 deadline for specified storm and fire losses
Hawaii has extended the deadline to October 15, 2026 for SNAP households that lost food bought with benefits during Hurricane Nolo-related power outages beginning September 25 or the wildfire impacts that followed on September 26. The extension applies to affected households in Hawaii County, Maui County and Oahu ZIP code 96731, which includes Kahuku.
Replacement benefits may cover the value of destroyed SNAP-purchased food, up to the household’s monthly benefit. A signed statement must include the household member’s name, the date of loss, the estimated value and a description of what happened, plus contact information. The state provides an optional form, but it says a signed written statement is acceptable. Submit the request to any Department of Human Services Processing Center.
Separate 10-day window for Molokai planned outages
A different notice covers Molokai SNAP households affected by planned power outages from October 3 through October 8 along East Kamehameha V Highway between Onioni Drive and Puu O Hoku Ranch. Those households have 10 days from the date their food was lost to request replacement benefits.
Keep the two filing windows distinct and report the actual loss date. For help locating a Processing Center or understanding the request, call the statewide Public Assistance Information Line at 1-855-643-1643. Eligibility and the replacement amount are determined by DHS; the notices do not promise every applicant the full monthly benefit.
