Owners may keep using the lock with its ordinary keys, but the recalled light-up key should be kept away from children and returned for a $5 refund.

The recall covers light-up keys, not the locks
Giant Bicycle recalled about 3,630 LED-light keys in the United States on October 8, 2026. The keys were included with certain SureLock bicycle lock sets and can expose a button-cell battery, creating an ingestion hazard for children. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the products violate the federal button-battery safety standard and lack required warnings. No incidents or injuries had been reported.
Only LED-light keys made after March 2023 are included. The affected lock families are SureLock Protector 1 DT, Protector 1 STD, Protector 1 LS, Flex Key Coil 15, Flex Key Coil 12, Flex Key 15, Flex Key 12, Giant SureLock Flex Key Coil 12 and Giant SureLock Flex Key Coil 15. Owners should compare the model and serial-number ranges with the official recall notice rather than relying on appearance alone.
Return the key and keep the ordinary keys
Stop using the LED-light key and keep it where children cannot reach it. Take the light-up key to an authorized Giant retailer for a $5 refund. The retailer will also need the complete lock purchase or a photograph of the serial number on the lock.
The lock can still be used with the included non-LED keys. Questions can be directed to Giant at 866-458-2555 during its weekday service window, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Pacific, or to Recall@GiantBicycle.com. Follow local rules for safely recycling or disposing of the battery; do not place a loose button cell where a child could retrieve it.
