Eighth annual Utah Women in the Money Conference features Washington Post columnist Michelle Singletary, practical workshops, and online participation

SALT LAKE CITY – October 15, 2026 – Utah Treasurer Marlo M. Oaks and the Utah Financial Empowerment Coalition invite Utahns to attend the eighth annual, hybrid Utah Women in the Money Conference on October 22–23 at the Salt Palace Convention Center and online.

Hosted in partnership with the Utah Department of Financial Institutions and the Utah Division of Securities, the conference brings together financial experts, community organizations, and government agencies to help participants make informed financial decisions and find resources to support their goals.

“Financial knowledge gives people more control over their lives,” Treasurer Oaks said. “Whether someone is working to get out of debt, prepare for retirement, or provide greater stability for their family, this conference offers practical guidance and a place to ask questions. We want Utahns to leave with the confidence and tools to improve their financial outcomes.”

This year’s featured speaker is Michelle Singletary, nationally syndicated personal finance columnist for The Washington Post, who will deliver Friday’s lunch keynote on money and resilience.

The conference opens Thursday with dinner and “Money, Meet Values: A Workshop for Living (and Spending) on Purpose,” led by Utah State University Extension professors. Friday begins with a Financial Fireside Chat, where a panel of experts will answer money questions submitted by attendees, followed by workshops, the lunch keynote, and opportunities to connect with community resources.

Sessions will address budgeting amid rising costs, investing, credit, entrepreneurship, homeownership, estate planning, and career development. Other workshops will explore financial stress, preparing for major life changes, and using artificial intelligence for everyday finances.

Participants will also learn about Utah programs and resources. The Office of State Treasurer will present a session on Utah Savers, the state’s new small-business retirement plan exchange. The Utah Division of Securities will offer guidance on recognizing financial fraud, and Utah Housing Corporation will share information about homeownership resources.

“You don’t need to have your finances figured out before you attend,” said Susan Speirs, chair of the Utah Financial Empowerment Coalition and CEO of the Utah Association of CPAs. “Come with your questions and choose the sessions that matter to you. You will meet people who can help, find useful resources, and learn alongside others working toward their own financial goals.”

The conference is designed with women’s financial needs in mind, including balancing caregiving responsibilities, navigating life transitions, and planning for long-term financial security. However, anyone is welcome to attend.

Previous conference attendee, Alex from Salt Lake City said, “The resources and tools I’ve gained from attending this conference have been monumental. It’s so great to come together with other women in a collaborative atmosphere, and I’m more motivated than ever to achieve financial success.”

Another past conference attendee, Yvonne from Farmington, said, “The fear of not knowing how money works and not knowing where to look for help/resources is my worst enemy! This has been a whirlwind day full of great presenters, information, and resources. So much appreciate being able to participate today.”

Financial services providers, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies will be available to answer questions and connect participants with additional support. The hybrid format allows Utahns to participate online from communities throughout the state. Attendees can access session recordings for a year after the event.
