Gov. Reynolds appoints Jon Dunwell to Iowa Utilities Commission

Monday, October 5, 2026

Press Release

Today, Governor Kim Reynolds announced the appointment of former State Representative Jon Dunwell to the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC). Dunwell served in the Iowa House representing the 38th district covering parts of Jasper County since October 2021. Earlier today, he resigned his seat effectively immediately. Dunwell was not seeking re-election.

“I appreciate Jon’s steady leadership style and his ability to foster strong relationships built on trust,” Governor Reynolds said. “Having had the opportunity to work with him, I’ve seen firsthand how he thoughtfully considers all sides of an issue. I’m confident that as a member of the Iowa Utilities Commission he will successfully balance growth and development opportunities with the importance of protecting ratepayers.”

“I’m grateful to Governor Reynolds for her trust and excited about the opportunity ahead,” Dunwell said. “Iowans depend on the work of the Iowa Utilities Commission every day, and I’m honored to serve them.”

As a member of the Iowa House, Dunwell served as Vice Chair of the Administration and Rules and Ways and Means Committees. He has also served as a member of the following legislative committees: Environmental Protection, Judiciary, Local Government, State Government and Transportation. He also served on the joint International Relations Committee, Iowa Commission on Interstate Cooperation and State Government Efficiency Review Committee.

Before joining the Iowa House of Representatives, Dunwell served a pastor and chaplain for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando, Florida. He also served as a pastor in Minnesota before moving to Newton, Iowa. Dunwell currently serves as the Director of Outreach and Engagement at The Family Leader and pastor of Gateway Church Monroe.
